I have narrowed down this long list by researching people's most popular & picking out the ones that I like and have got on DVD. Here are some surveys that already exist:

(toptens.com) - Best romantic comedy of all time

1. Love Actually
2. She's the Man
3. 50 First Dates
4. You've Got Mail
5. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
6. Notting Hill
7. When Harry Met Sally
8. Sleepless in Seattle
9. Heartbreakers
10. Dating the Enemy

This survey isn't as relevant as the second one, but it is interesting to see that 5 out of the top 10 chosen were produced in the decade that I am looking at.

(associated content.com) - Top romantic comedy of the last decade

1. The Proposal (2009)
2. Fool's Gold (2008)
3. Music and Lyrics (2007)
4. The Ugly Truth (2009)
5. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003)
6. Sweet Home Alabama (2002)
7. Two Weeks Notice (2002)
8. Love Actually (2003)
9. Just Like Heaven (2005)
10. Bridget Jones' Diary (2001)

Here are the results of the people I have asked. I kept it to asking those who slot into my target audience category, as they are more likely to have watched more off the original list:

Out of all the films, I think I will look more closely at:
  • Love Actually
  • Hitch
  • Sex and the City
  • The Holiday
  • The Women
  • Mamma Mia
  • He's Just Not That Into You
  • The Proposal
because they were some of the top films chosen in the questionnaire above and I have got them on DVD to be able to look at DVD idents, title sequences, colours, type, music etc to help me create more researched and relevant idents for promoting the romantic comedy film season.
